Welcome to Ohio Ancestor Heritage

Do you have Ohio ancestors?  Ohio Ancestor Heritage is a database of Ohio ancestors taken from state and local history books and other sources, some unique, published prior to 1920.

The database currently contains 6,889 name entries indexed from Historical Collections of Ohio, Volume I by Henry Howe, published 1902.  Material in Mr. Howe’s History  includes historical notes on the State of Ohio from 1673 to 1864, information on Ohio in the Civil War, a Roll of Members of the Ohio Commandery Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States, Ohio’s Work in the U.S. Sanitary Commission and many illustrations.  Each county has its own chapter beginning with its creation and continuing to approximately 1890.  Counties currently included in the database are Adams, Allen, Ashland, Ashtabula, Athens, Auglaize, Belmont, Brown, Butler, Carroll, Champaign, Clark, Clermont, Clinton, Columbiana, Coshocton, Crawford, Cuyahoga, Darke,  Defiance, Delaware, Erie, Fairfield and Fayette Counties.

E-mail us at cchafin@bright.net for a free look-up.  Should we find your ancestors name referenced in the database, we will advise you of the name of the book and page number(s) on which the name(s) are located.  You may then access the book from your local genealogical library; or, if you wish, we will provide copies of pertinent pages for $.50 per page plus postage and handling (check or USPS money order, allow two to three weeks for delivery).

Come back often to see what’s new in the database. We will be adding names on an ongoing basis from books we have in our collection.
