PICKAWAY HELPS ACTIVITIES
Through collaborative efforts with Ohio Christian University, Pickaway HELPS sponsored a “Kids on Campus” math enrichment program in June 2007 for 4th and 5th graders. An expanded summer program is being planned for summer 2008 with additional classes offered in other subjects as well.
In collaboration with the Pickaway County District Public Library, plans are in process for development of a “college corner” space with reference materials, financial aid forms and related college/career planning information available to all residents of Pickaway County.
Field trips are being planned to several 2-year and 4-year colleges for juniors and seniors, as well as to Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center for the middle school grades.
Presentations to the GED/ABLE classes, at the YMCA and the Island Road location, with follow-up assistance to participants as needed and requested.
Early awareness activities and presentations to the Team Camp group at the YMCA and other after school programs (4th-8th graders) at the elementary and middle schools.
Ongoing presentations of post-secondary planning information to high school students and their parents at school and after-school parent meetings.
Collaboration with the Pickaway County Educational Service Center to offer ACT preparation classes to all students in Pickaway County this spring.
Collaboration with Ohio Christian University on presenting a “College Goal Saturday” Financial Aid Day at their facility, tentatively planned for Feb. 9th. HELPS held a similar workshop last February to assist families in our county with applying for financial aid for college and completing the FAFSA.
Promotion of Pickaway County Counselor’s Financial Aid night – Jan 9th at CHS.
Ongoing planning for a county-wide College Fair next fall to be held at Teays Valley High School. Ongoing involvement and planning with Family and Children First Council, Teen Task Force, Tobacco Coalition and Partnerships for Success in our collaborative efforts to improve the quality of life for all residents of Pickaway County.
